What is a Model Comp Card?

A model comp card, short for “composite card” also known as Z Card or Zed Card, is a marketing tool used by models, particularly in the fashion and model industry. It is essentially a printed card or digital file that serves as a model’s business card, resume, or portfolio in a concise and visually appealing format. The primary purpose of a model comp card is to showcase a model’s versatility and provide essential information to potential clients such as casting directors, agents, designers, and photographers.

A typical model comp card includes the following elements:

  • Photos - comp cards typically feature a collection of high-quality photographs of the model. These photos showcase the model in various poses, outfits, and styles to demonstrate their range and versatility. The most common layout is a large centered image on the front of the comp card, usually a headshot and smaller images, between 3-9 images at the back of the comp card, or a large centered image with smaller images surrounding it.

  • Model’s Name - the model’s full name is prominently displayed on the card for easy identification.

  • Contact Information - essential contact details such as the model’s agency, if applicable, phone number, email address, and social media handles may be included.

  • Physical Stats - Information about the model’s physical statistics, and characteristics, including height, weight, hair color, eye color, measurements (bust, waist, hips, and dress size for women) (chest, waist, inseam, and suit size for men) and shoe size are often listed

  • Agency Logo - if the model is represented by an agency and at the request of the agency, the agency’s logo and contact information may also appear on the card

Model comp card’s are essential tools for models when attending castings, auditions, or networking events. They provide a quick and professional way for clients and industry professionals to assess a model’s potential suitability for a project or job. Comp cards can be printed on card stock or distributed digitally as image or PDF files making them versatile and easily shareable.
